For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)

By: Scott Schuler

Life looked great. I was married. I had a prominent career, spacious home, active church leadership position, supportive friendships, and a secure future. But I was a puzzle with a missing piece.

I remember the day I committed to Jesus. I also remembered the optimism and joy that filled me. I thought I could move a mountain with my bare hands. But now monumental challenges filled the valley before me. I was powerless. I wanted to do what the Bible said, yet lust and greed haunted me. The repetition became a cycle of frustration. Constantly seeking the next big thing—better job, more money, more fulfilling marriage and never being satisfied—left me exhausted and disenchanted. I wanted everything else more than I wanted Jesus.

Why couldn’t I get this following Jesus thing right?

I asked my trusted friends if they had experienced frustration too. Each one gave me a mixture of puzzled looks and counsel, “get more involved in church, read the Bible, pray, and serve, serve, serve!”

So, I did … and I felt like a fake!

Do you ever feel others are cruising through life while you’re crashing and burning on your Christian journey? AGAIN?

Desperate for answers when life throws you a curveball?

Distracted by worldly culture and struggling to find identity?

Tired of giving up too quickly when temptation knocks?

Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV) tells us: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Broad is the road that leads to destruction …

Narrow the road that leads to life …

The Bible is clear … we are either walking the wide or narrow road.

Headed for destruction or abundant life of joy, hope, purpose and love found only in Jesus.

Which road are you traveling?

Your journey to get things right with Jesus depends on the answer to three questions:

  • How well do you know God?
  • How well do you understand the enemy?
  • How well do you know yourself?

Find the life-changing answer to the “why” in Why Can’t I Get This Jesus Thing Right?

The answer will draw you closer to Jesus than ever.
