Sanctify them in the truth; your word [Bible] is truth. John 17:17 ESV

How often do we read or hear news that proves false?
We are sometimes a little too quick to broadcast “breaking news,” caught up in a wave of embellished stories and fake news, before we take the time to validate its truth. The world-wide trend of misinformation is increasing, due to the easy access to social media versus the traditional news sources of broadcast and print.
We must remain vigilant in testing the truth of our news intake.
What we believe impacts our worldview, our emotional well-being and our faith. It’s like the saying, “You are what you eat.” When I eat junk food, I gain weight and feel horrible. When my food intake is nutritious and healthy, I stay in shape physically and mentally. As Christians when we absorb false news and teaching, it taints our spiritual health.
A Christian’s worldview should be rooted in biblical truth.
Our understanding of this truth comes out of our relationship with God. When we search the Bible for Truth, God teaches us and draws us closer to Him. If we shift from biblical truth, engaging aspects of other beliefs and religions, our thought process becomes tainted. The slow fade from biblical truth to embracing the rapidly changing culture that we live in is a red flag we must take seriously.
Is the Church allowing the culture to tell us what to believe and how to adapt our truth to changing worldview?
False teachers, doctrine and religions are flourishing across America. I have even witnessed this in the Christian Church. Perhaps instead of living as an example according to the truth of God’s Word, we are starting to look like what Timothy warns of in 2 Timothy 4:3 ESV:
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions.
I have heard the argument that Christians should accept everyone and love them as Jesus would. I absolutely agree! But we are not supposed to exchange the Truth of God’s Word for what the world tells us to believe.
The Bible and Christian faith do not change for people and cultural trends.
In Hosea 4:6a ESV we read this warning from God through His prophet, Hosea:
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;
because you have rejected knowledge …
We are supposed to be an example of the truth and love of Jesus and point everyone to Him. It is only through His power that our hearts and worldview can be changed and corrected by timeless truth.
So, how do we bring our concepts of worldview and Christian faith to Jesus?
We can start by reading God’s Word, comparing what we believe to what the Bible says. For example, is Jesus really the only way to God, the Father, and to heaven? Read John 14:6. How are we saved from sin? In this order, read Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9-11, 13.
These are just a few examples of how we can measure our Christian worldviews to the timeless truth of the Bible. What changes have you made or do you need to make, to consume a healthier diet of truth?
