The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I [Jesus] came that they may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10 ESV).

Condemnation comes from self-imposed thoughts or external influences that create feelings of shame, unworthiness, or defectiveness.

Think of condemnation as an internal bully that tries to press you down. Every time you try to rise, the bully points out unworthiness, repeated mistakes, shame, and failures. He attempts to instill doubt of ever changing or moving beyond your current circumstances. This internal bully is the Enemy described in John 10:10. His purpose is to destroy your purpose and belief that your life is worth anything.

God’s conviction results from sin you committed or are about to commit.

He knows sin damages your relationship with Jesus and separates you from him. Conviction is God’s gift to correct and protect you from destruction and the bondage of sin.

Understanding the difference between condemnation and conviction is critical.

You need to recognize the difference between the bully’s voice (the Enemy’s) and God’s voice. The Enemy’s goal is to tempt and mislead you. God desires to breathe new life into your body and soul through his Spirit.

Whose voice are you listening to? God, or Satan?
